Last Sunday, our parish celebrated the Rites of Sending and Election, for our Catechumens (unbaptized) who are progressing from Period 2 into Period 3 of the RCIA process. Our Candidates (those previously baptized) are called to continuing conversion.
The Rite of Election is normally held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament with the Bishop presiding. Because of COVID protocols, the Bishop delegated authority to parish pastors so the Rites could be celebrated in parish churches with fewer attendees. During the Rites our Catechumens and Candidates signed their names into the Book of the Elect and Father Davy gave them their new title – “Elect.” We as a parish joyfully witnessed this step into a period of final and more intense preparation for the Elect as they cleanse their hearts and minds in preparation for the Easter sacraments.
